TKO is continuing trail rehabilitation in areas of the Gorge affected by the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire. Only preregistered volunteers will be accepted, but keep an eye on registrations as cancelations can happen and spots would open until 6PM the night before the event.
Because the fire-affected zone is potentially more hazardous than other sites where we work, the crew leader may decide to cancel the work party the day before, based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated work party cancellations.
In general, our focus will be brushing (downed limbs mostly), hole-filling where roots have burned, and restoring tread that has been damaged by fallen trees and limbs. Our focus will be on a section of drainage that needs to be improved. This plan may change based on what’s done over the course of work parties.
We will be hiking to the top of Angel’s Rest. Depending on how much work has been accomplished at previous work parties, you may be hiking up to 4-6 miles over steep terrain. If you have questions or concerns about the hike, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
What to expect:
You should expect to work in a fire-affected zone over uneven terrain, with many obstacles to climb over and/or remove. While the area we will be working has been approved for volunteers to enter it is still relatively hazardous. A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
What to bring:
Bring your lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
An extra set of clothes to change into at the end of the day is a good idea, as we will be working in a sooty, potentially muddy area.
What to wear:
Directions to the worksite will be provided to registered volunteers no later than 48 hours prior to the work party date, along with any other necessary information.
