TKO is continuing trail rehabilitation in areas of the Gorge affected by the 2017 Eagle Creek Fire. Only preregistered volunteers will be accepted, but keep an eye on registrations as cancelations can happen and spots would open until 6PM the night before the event.
Because the fire-affected zone is potentially more hazardous than other sites where we work, the crew leader may decide to cancel the work party the day before, based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated work party cancellations. Plans are in place for an alternative location/activity if weather dictates cancellation. Details will be emailed prior to the event.
Join TKO on a guided hike through areas still closed by the Eagle Creek Fire. We will talk about the methods and ideaology behind scouting and assessing a trail for future projects, and examine work already in progress by TKO teams.
We will be hiking the Upper McCord Falls trail to it’s termination at the falls, approximately 2 1/2 miles round trip with about 400 feet elevation gain.
What to expect:
You should expect to work in a fire-affected zone over uneven terrain, with many obstacles to climb over and/or remove. A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
What to bring:
Bring your lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
An extra set of clothes to change into at the end of the day is a good idea, as we will be working in a sooty, potentially muddy area.
What to wear:
Directions to the worksite will be provided to registered volunteers no later than 48 hours prior to the work party date, along with any other necessary information.
