Tryon Creek State Natural Area will be the site of TKO’s next Family Friendly event. This trail party, geared specifically for children and their families, will work on removing invasive species along the trail system as well as performing some general trail maintenance. Come bring the whole family for this fun-filled day of learning about trail stewardship!
Participants should expect to hike 1.5-2.0 miles (round trip) on trail that may be muddy at times.
What to expect:
This family-friendly event is aimed at youngsters 8 – 14 years of age, although kids as young as 6 may participate. As such, the work party will be considerably shorter than our normal events, running from 9:00 to noon.
Much of the work will be done by hand, such as pulling out encroaching plants, some of which may have thorns. It is therefore essential that everyone participating have good-fitting gloves that are up to the task. TKO has loaner gloves available if you don’t have any.
Minors will need to be accompanied by at least one legal guardian at all times.
Participants must arrive on time to participate in the pre-work safety talk. We will not be able to accommodate late arrivals who miss the safety discussion.
