Silver Falls State Park -Canyon Trail

October 17 at 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Crew Leader: Arthur M.
Hike Distance: 2 miles round trip
Elevation Gain: 400′
Hike Difficulty: Easy
Work Difficulty: Moderate
Work Description: Building crub wall to preserve trail.

We will be working down in the canyon past North falls primarily working on curb, may be rock work.

Other considerations:
Parking at the trailhead is limited, so we will be carpooling from a site that has more spaces. We will meet at the South fall enterance parking lot . This is a very active trail, so expect lots of hikers. Because of this, we will not leave a partial project uncompleted, but rather will schedule as many days as required to complete the work that is needed. As always, the crew leader may decide to cancel the trail party the day before based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated trail party cancellations.

Project description:
We will meet at 8:15 AM for a safety and tool talk and then begin our project. The trail is being eroded by a user trail down to the creek and out to logs and a large rock. We will be building a cur or possible crib wall to stablize the trail, back filling and cutting back the hinge. There is some rock available at the site and we will determine how to best construct the wall. It may be a combination of materials.

Hiking information:
The trail goes downhill to the canyon trail wher we will procced to the work site.  Total round-trip distance is 2 mile.

What to expect:
This is a well-established graveled trail that has lots of visitors. User trail to logs in stream has eroded the side of the trail we wil be building a curb or crib possibly rock wall to stablize the trail.

A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
