Silver Falls State Park -Canyon Trail

September 26, 2019 at 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Crew Leader: Arthur M.
Hike Distance: 1 mile
Elevation Gain: 400′
Hike Difficulty: Easy
Work Difficulty: Moderate
Work Description: Hinge work and re-directing drainage.

We will be working down in the canyon past North falls primarily working on hinge.

Other considerations:
Parking at the trailhead is limited, so we will be carpooling from a site that has more spaces. We will meet at the South fall enterance parking lot . This is a very active trail, so expect lots of hikers. Because of this, we will not leave a partial project uncompleted, but rather will schedule as many days as required to complete the work that is needed. As always, the crew leader may decide to cancel the trail party the day before based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated trail party cancellations.

Project description:
We will meet at 8:15 AM for a safety and tool talk and then begin our project. The trail is slowly experiencing tread creep and we wil be working primarily on the hinge getting back to more of the orginal trail.

Hiking information:
The trail goes downhill to the canyon trail wher we will procced to the work site.  Total round-trip distance is 2 mile.

What to expect:
This is a well-established graveled trail that has lots of visitors. The tread surface is rocky, getting the hinge cut back can be challenging.. We will be working with hand tools, including hoes, hand saws and loppers.

A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
