CAR FREE EVENT – Rowena Crest/Tom McCall Nature Preserve Trail Party

Free transportation is being provided for this Car-Free event, courtesy of Wildwood Adventures. For those wishing to take the shuttle, we’ll be meeting at the Gateway Transit Center Park & Ride garage –  1249 NE 99th Ave, Portland, OR 97220. The shuttle will leave promptly at 7:30 am and will be back no later than 5:00 pm. For those not wishing to take the shuttle, please plan to arrive at the meeting location (Rowena Crest Viewpoint – Tom McCall Nature Preserve) by no later than 9:00 am. 

What to expect:

You should expect to hike and use a variety of different tools over uneven terrain, with the possibility of obstacles to climb over and/or remove. A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins. For safety reasons, we expect volunteers to stay for the duration of the trail party. Please do not expect to be able to arrive late or to leave early. 

What to bring:

  • Sturdy boots – please bring sturdy boots that will protect your toes from sharp tools. For safety reasons, we cannot allow tennis shoes, sandals etc. during the trail work sessions
  • Long sleeved shirt and work pants – wear what you won’t mind getting dirty in
  • Rain gear and warm layers – it is January in the Gorge, please come prepared for all weather 🙂
  • Work gloves – we will have loaner pairs available
  • Water bottle – 2L minimum highly recommended
  • A sack lunch and trail snacks
  • Daypack – for carrying all of the above
