Get your body and brain toned for the upcoming trail season with a day of rock scooting, wall building, and tread busting. The new trail we are building at Punchbowl Falls County Park (Hood River Valley) will spark your imagination on what works when trying to build trail in steep terrain.
The walk to the site is short. Gravity will usually be working in our favor when moving large boulders from their source to destination so brute strength isn’t required. But you may want to recall this from that physics class you took in college: F = μN, where N = mg cos (θ). “F”, of course, is the resisting force when a boulder is towed along the ground to its destination. Forgot to take physics class? No matter.
We’ll trade tasks throughout the day, when possible, so no one ends up bored.
Punchbowl Falls is a gem of a park. Within its boundaries are two waterfalls, basalt cliffs, two muscular rivers, bald eagles, and spawning steelhead. Background music created by the nearby river is a bonus.
Spend a Saturday helping create this special community trail. Your brain and body will thank you.
