Punchbowl Falls Trail Party

November 15, 2018 at 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

Overview:

Chip Andrus will be leading this work party.

Punchbowl Falls became a Hood River County park in 2016 and with it a push to create a trail system that highlights this gem. The park includes the 20-foot-high falls of the West Fork Hood River plunging into a massive pool surrounded by vertical cliffs of basalt. Just as beautiful are the adjacent Dead Point Creek Falls. Follow the river downstream of the falls and you come to the confluence of the West Fork with the East Fork where you can watch Chinook salmon spawning.

The last piece of new trail to finish at the park is a 500-foot-long section that ties the existing trails from falls to the confluence. The terrain is steep and the trail building conditions a challenge. Are you up for a lot of boulder wrestling?

Project description:

We will construct a section of the new trail that traverses a steep slope. We will be rooting out the brush, excavating boulders, and building rock reinforcement structures.

Hiking information:

The hike to the start of the project is only several 100 feet.

What to expect:

You should expect to work in steep terrain with lots of rock work.  The work will be moderately strenuous.
