Oxbow Regional Park Trail Party

July 26 at 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Crew Leader: Kim K.
Hike Distance: 1 mile over the course of the day, tops
Elevation Gain: 0′
Hike Difficulty: Easy
Work Difficulty: Easy
Work Description:  Remove root, clear drainage, brush back vegetation, basic tread
Key words: Tread, drainage, basic, minor-friendly

TKO is pleased to partner with Metro for an opportunity to address trail maintenance at a beloved regional park!

This work party will finish trail along section B that has been closed for about a year due to conditions at a bridge.  Some participants will work to remove a root blocking the path and on clearing drainage in that area while others bush back the vegetation that has overgrown the trail due to its disuse.  Most of this trail party will be basic maintenance, and would be suitable for people looking for a beginner’s trail party as well as minors 12 years age and above (with parent or guardian present, per Metro rules).

Hiking information:

We will be hiking perhaps a mile over the course of the day, with very little elevation gain.

Other notes:

  • We’ll need three or four people (tops) to work on the drainage project because of limited space in that area.  These people should expect to get very muddy.  Muck boots would be a great idea if you’d like to participate in this aspect of the day’s activities.

  • Depending on the number of volunteers we have and how much we get done, we may move to another location in Oxbow after lunch. Hiking and elevation gain will remain minimal if that’s the case.

  • There is limited cell service in the area.  We’ll have a park radio for communication.

What to expect:

You should expect to participate in this work party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please to not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

What to bring:

  • Lunch

  • Plenty of water

  • Snacks

  • Gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)

What to wear:

  • Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. No tennis shoes allowed!)

  • Work gloves (loaner gloves available)

  • Long sleeved shirts and pants.

  • Rain gear as appropriate for the weather

  • TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses
