Metro has identified a number of areas throughout the park where timber box steps should be installed, beginning with two access points descending to the Sandy River. TKO, Metro and Oxbow staff are joining to discuss how to plan, build and install box steps so that TKO volunteers can move the effort forward throughout the upcoming winter months.
Although this project will be a continuation of the previous training sessions, no experience is necessary, and you don’t have to have attended the training sessions; our experienced crew leaders will teach you all you need to know to successfully build and install box steps at Oxbow. We will build some steps in the Oxbow shop then install those steps at the job site. There may also be opportunity to prep additional trails for subsequent box step installation.
Note: The area is awash in trailing blackberry, salmonberry and stinging nettles. Please bring good gloves and safety glasses, if you have them. Also, the trail can get very muddy, even on dry days, so please be prepared; bring clothes you can get dirty, and something to change into afterwards. We’ll be working at the river, rain or shine, so be sure to bring warm layers.
You do not need to pay for parking; a free parking pass will be provided the day of the event.
There is very limited cell phone reception within the park. We’ll be relying on park radios should an emergency arise.
