Oregon Coast Trail Party- Ecola Reroute

Join us to help solve a gap in the OCT overlooking Crescent Beach at Ecola State Park.

Work Description: New trail flagging, corridor clearing

This is a chance for experienced TKO volunteers to help solve a fatal failure was caused by a landslide at Ecola State Park.

What to expect:

Prior to this event, you will be asked to watch a short orientation video about TKO’s new COVID-19 safety procedures, and also to participate in a Zoom meeting with the rest of the crew. This is a chance for the group to get to know each other, and go over the safety and work expectations for the day. You must also sign the TKO e-waiver and complete a personal health screening before attending this event. Details and links will be provided after you register.

You should expect to participate in this work party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

You should expect to work on well-established trail surfaces in wooded/open areas. We will be working with trail tools, small hand saws, and brushing loppers. You will work with experienced crew leaders.

What to bring:

  • Lunch
  • Drinking water for the entire day – minimum of 2 liters recommended
  • Snacks
  • Personal hygiene kit – must include a face mask/covering, work gloves, and hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes
  • Overnight camping gear, dinner supplies, food/water.

What to wear:

  • Boots – please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. No tennis shoes allowed!
  • Work gloves
  • Hard hat – if available, please bring your TKO green/orange/yellow hard hat
  • Long sleeved shirts and pants
  • Rain gear as appropriate for the weather

Directions:

Please arrive promptly at 8AM to the Ecola State Park entrance road to be let in through a locked gate to the park. If you’d like to come in Friday night, please reach out to the crew leader. If you arrive late, cell service is spotty and you may have to walk in.

LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT: TKO recognizes that this trail travels through the traditional lands of the Chinook people as well as other tribes. These indigenous people were forced to cede their land, their home, to the US government in 1855. We are privileged to be here today & express gratitude to the descendants of these tribes for being the original stewards of this land.
