TKO is actively working with OPRD and Friends of Tryon at Tryon Creek Natural Area and we’re excited to team up with Novogradac for your 2019 service day!
A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins – as such, please arrive in your carpools by 9am sharp. We may be hiking in materials such as gravel and debris to and from the work site. Per the park ranger, we will not know the location or nature of our trailwork until 1-2 weeks before the event. Expect a short hike into the work area and then moderately strenuous work at the site using a variety of materials & hand tools. We will likely hike out as a group to enjoy our lunch at one of the picnic areas by the Nature Center.
Snacks and plenty of water. Lunch will be pre-ordered from Subway.
An extra set of clothes to change into at the end of the day is a good idea, as we will be working in a potentially muddy area.
From the east or west, take I-5 to Terwilliger Blvd. Head east on Terwilliger Blvd. until you reach the Tryon Creek Natural Area entrance (on the right). Find parking near the Nature Center (carpooling requested by the park ranger). We will meet in the Nature Center parking lot between 8:30-9:00am.
Everyone will be meeting at Riverdale High School at 8:30am so we can cram as many bodies into as few vehicles as possible.
The crew leader may decide to cancel the work party the day before, based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. We will make the judgment call the day before the event so everybody is aware before they leave work on the 29th.
