[POSTPONED] Neahkahnie Gap Box Steps – Build and Installation

March 21 at 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

Free

Crew Leader:Brandon T
Hike Distance: < 1/4 mile
Elevation Gain: 0′
Hike Difficulty: Easy
Work Difficulty: Easy/ Moderate
Work Description:  Field installation of timbered box steps
Key words: Box steps, training

This TImber School will teach you how to build and install box steps at Neahkahnie Gap Oregon Coast Trail project.

Although this project will be a continuation of the previous training sessions, no experience is necessary, and you don’t have to have attended the training sessions; our experienced crew leaders will teach you all you need to know to successfully build and install box steps at Neahkahnie. We will build some steps in the Alder Creek Farm shop then install those steps at the job site. There may also be opportunity to prep additional trails for subsequent box step installation.

Note: The area is awash in trailing blackberry, salmonberry and stinging nettles.  Please bring good gloves and safety glasses, if you have them.  Also, the trail can get very muddy, even on dry days, so please be prepared; bring clothes you can get dirty, and something to change into afterwards.  We’ll be working rain or shine, so be sure to bring warm layers.

What to bring:

  • Lunch
  • Plenty of water
  • Snacks
  • Gloves if you have them (loaner gloves available)

What to wear:

  • Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. No tennis shoes allowed.)
  • Work gloves (loaner gloves available)
  • A long-sleeved shirt is highly recommended
  • Long pants are required
  • Rain gear as appropriate for the weather
  • TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses
