Work Description: Installation of bridge-supporting gabions on Maple Ridge trail

Overview: McIver State Park, located on the Clackamas River between Oregon City and Estacada, is a 950-acre park with camping, boating, hiking and horseback riding opportunities for its visitors.  There are over 14 miles of trails for hikers and horseback riders in the park.

Project description: A bridge on the Maple Ridge trail is in need of supporting structures.  The bridge is 14’ in length and is leaning sideways, as well as being uneven from end to end.  The project will involve excavating under the bridge, installing and filling 6 gabions, and raising the bridge to its correct orientation.  This project will be done over a period of two days.  You may come one or both days.

Hiking information: The distance to the bridge from the trailhead is less than half a mile.

What to expect: You should expect to do work in a variety of locations related to this project.  We will be assembling the gabions, moving rock from the staging site to the bridge with mechanical toters, and working under the bridge to move debris. as well as excavating the side slopes where the gabions will be placed.

What to bring: Bring your lunch and plenty of water.

Also bring good work gloves. An extra pair of gloves is recommended due to the wet conditions.

What to wear: Boots (tennis shoes are not allowed). Due to the wet conditions in the creek bed, rubber boots are permitted.

                        Long sleeved shirts recommended

Rain gear as appropriate for the weather

Eye protection is recommended (eye glasses, safety glasses, etc.)
