McIver Trail Party – Maple Ridge Trail

April 30, 2019 at 8:30 am - 3:30 pm

The Maple Ridge trail is a popular 2-mile loop trail.  Over the last several years, TKO volunteers have done a great deal of work on this trail, including several realignments to bring the trail out of wet areas.  Drainage is an ongoing problem on this trail, which is flat in many areas and has impenetrable clay soil.

We will be working primarily on drainage. This will involve cleaning out existing drain dips and improving them as needed. We may also make new drainage areas, including drain dips and ditches.

Hiking information: The Maple Ridge trail is 2 miles in length, with gentle elevation gains and losses.  Hiking distance will be less than 2 miles.

What to expect: You will be working with trail tools to create areas for water to drain from the trail.  You may be using hand saws and loppers to remove vegetation.   You will work with experienced crew leaders. No experience is necessary.

What to bring: Bring your lunch and plenty of water. Also bring good work gloves and supportive boots.

What to wear
– Boots (tennis shoes are not allowed)
– Long sleeved shirts recommended
– Rain gear as appropriate for the weather
– Eye protection is recommended (eye glasses, safety glasses, etc.)
– TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses

Directions: McIver Park is located on Springwater Road. The GPS coordinates are:

For best results, use your GPS or a map guide from your own location. Directions to the trailhead will be given to the participants prior to the work party date.
