TKO is pleased to partner with Metro for an opportunity to address trail maintenance at a beloved regional park! We welcome all members of the LGBTQ+ community age 18 and over who have the desire and ability to spend a day hiking and working on the trail. We prioritize safety and fun over quantity of work accomplished and encourage people to try different things and work at a comfortable pace. No experience is necessary — you’ll be working with experienced crew leaders who will teach you all you need to know. We’ll end the day with TKO-provided beverages and salty snacks.
We will be hiking perhaps a mile over the course of the day, with very little elevation gain.
What to expect:
We will meet at the Welcome Center no later than 8:30 before driving to our work site within the park. You should expect to participate in this work party for its entirety. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.
You do not need to pay for parking; a free parking pass will be provided the day of the event.
There is very limited cell phone reception within the park. We’ll be relying on park radios should an emergency arise.
This trail party will focus on basic maintenance throughout the day (restoring tread, brushing back encroaching vegetation, clearing blocked drainage). Note: The area is awash in trailing blackberry, salmonberry, and stinging nettles. Please bring good gloves, if you have them. Also, the trail can get muddy, even on dry days, so please be prepared; bring clothes you can get dirty, and something to change into afterwards.
What to bring:
• Plenty of water
What to wear:
• Boots (Please wear something sturdy that will protect your toes from sharp tools. Tennis shoes are not recommended!)
• Work gloves (loaner gloves available)
• Long sleeved shirts and pants.
• Rain gear as appropriate for the weather
• TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses
Directions will be provided via email 48 hours before the event. Be sure to check your spam folder in case the Eventbrite email gets filtered away from your inbox.
