Latourell Falls is the westernmost waterfall in the Columbia Gorge, and thus the closest to Portland. The hike is a relatively gentle 2-mile loop to the upper falls and back. Because of the Eagle Creek fire, it is one of only two waterfall hikes open to the public in the Gorge, and so is experiencing a great deal of hiking traffic. The trail is in need of annual maintenance to address drainage and brushing issues.
Two work parties in March did maintenance on the trail with the exception of the lower half of the west side of the loop trail. This section is mostly wide, compacted trail with several well-established drainages that need to be cleaned or improved.
We will be hiking about 1-1 ½ miles total distance.
