TKO will be returning to Latourell Falls for our next family friendly trail party. This event, geared specifically for children and their families, will work on decommissioning a user-made cut-off trail along the upper loop section, as well as removing vegetation encroaching on the uphill side of the trail. Come bring the whole family for this fun-filled day of learning about trail stewardship!
Participants should expect to hike 1.5-2.0 miles (round trip) on trail that is steep at times. It may also be muddy and slippery if conditions are wet.
What to expect:
This family-friendly event is aimed at youngsters 8 – 14 years of age, although kids as young as 6 may participate. As such, the work party will be considerably shorter than our normal events, running from 9:00 to noon.
Much of the work will be done by hand, such as moving duff and plants to cover the area we want hikers to avoid and pulling out encroaching plants, some of which may have thorns. It is therefore essential that everyone participating have good-fitting gloves that are up to the task. TKO has loaner gloves available if you dont have any. Please bring loppers if you have them.
It’s a good idea to bring multiple clothing layers. People generally get quite warm hiking uphill and while working but can get very chilly during breaks and hiking downhill. A change of clothing at the car for afterwards may also make the trip home more pleasant.
Minors will need to be accompanied by at least one legal guardian at all times.
Participants must arrive on time to participate in the pre-work safety talk. We will not be able to accommodate late arrivals who miss the safety discussion.
