DEI Workshop #1: Inclusive Culture – a 2022 TKO Leadership Summit Event

April 3, 2022 at 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Free
The first of a series of workshops to hone our leaders’ skills in hosting events that are safe and welcoming for all.

TKO is excited to be putting on the first of a series of DEI-focused workshops developed in partnership with our friends at Forest Park Conservancy.

Join us for this new virtual (for now) workshop! We’ll be learning in a fun and approachable way through short presentations and small-group exercises. The goal is that we’ll all come away with an understanding of the value of intentionally inclusive spaces, some modern vocabulary on the topic, and specific things we can do as TKO leaders to make all people feel safe and welcome.

TKO wants all hikers in Oregon to feel safe and welcome in outdoor spaces. We recognize that access to public lands, outdoor recreation, and facilities is an inherent right of all people, enabling them to improve their quality of life through nurturing the spirit, body, and mind. Knowing that some people cannot safely access these spaces due to current political and social structures which perpetuate the dominance of some groups and the oppression of others, TKO commits to establishing a culture of anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion among its board, staff, and volunteer leadership.

The next two workshops in the series – to be completed this trail season – will focus on racism, antiracism, and privilege, and on allyship and intterupting harm.

This workshop will be hosted online using Zoom and a link will be shared to all participants shortly before the event.

This TKO Leadership Summit Event is open to folks who are:

  • Current Crew Leaders – CLs/ACLs and;
  • TKO Board and advisory members and;
  • Other local community volunteers, Agency staff and partners who are interested in learning our leadership structure – if you’re wondering if this is right for you, please email natalie.ferraro@trailkeepersoforegon.org to start the conversation.
