Overview: TKO has been invited to fix some long-term drainage, retaining walls, and repair/replace/add some new timber box steps near the landing area at Bridal Veil Falls State Park. Only preregistered volunteers will be accepted for these projects, but keep an eye on registrations as cancelations can happen and spots would open until 6PM the night before the event.
Potential cancellation: This work site does experience heavy gorge winds, the crew leader may decide to cancel the work party the day before based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated work party cancellations.
Project description: In general, our focus will be the construction of some additional new timbered box steps below the existing timbered steps below the viewing platform at Bridal Veil. This project will be unusually challenging because we will be building down from the existing steps; normally you build up from the bottom to the top. This plan may change based on what’s done over the course of work parties.
Hiking information: We will be able to park on UP property and walk the 100 yds to the jobsite. . If you have questions or concerns about the hike, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
What to expect: We will be working on the existing box timbered steps just below the landing area viewpoint. We will have to monitor for hikers below and on the existing trail in the work area. It may be rainy and windy so be sure to bring extra clothes, windbreakers, an extra set of gloves, and rain gear for inclement weather. A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
What to bring: Bring your lunch, snacks and plenty of water.
What to wear:
Directions: Take I-84 East to Bridal Veil exit 28 from I-84. Turn right almost immediately into the Bridal Veil Post Office parking area. Meet for a car caravan into the parking area. We will have access via the Union Pacific roads to the lower gate area of the work site.
