Overview:This trail begins mid-way down E. Grove Ave in the town of Welches and ends at its junction with Plaza Trail #783. From Bridge Street in Welches the trail generally follows Cheeney Creek to the northwest side for approximately 1.6 miles. The trail begins a long climb (3.2 miles to the trails end at Plaza Trail #783. This trail enters the Salmon-Huckleberry Wilderness Area and there are outstanding views near Huckleberry Mountain (4378 ft elevation).
Project Description: After a safety and tool talk we will begin at the trailhead and logout any trees that are within the trail corridor. We will hike and clear logs as far as time allows before we head back to the trailhead at the end of our day. The first 1.6 miles of trail have already been cleared of logs during the 2019 TKO Tread School.
Hiking information:: We will begin hiking at the trailhead and continue 1.6 miles until the trail starts to switchback and gradually climb in elevation. Total hiking distance will depend on the amount of trail we are able to clear.
What to expect: You should expect to hike 6 to 8 miles round trip and participate in this work party for its entirety. Some previous experience with a crosscut saw is helpful but not required. For safety reasons, please do not arrive late or expect to be able to leave early.

Directions: From Portland: Follow US Hwy 26 17.3 miles east of Sandy. Turn south on E. Welches Road and follow it 1.9 miles to Bridge Street. Take the right onto E. Bridge Street and follow it 0.1 mile, bearing left onto E. Grove Ave. The trail starts behind a cable on the right side of the road, up an old logging road. Once that road turns and starts to flatten out, the Bonanza trail goes down off to the left of this old road (look for trail sign on a tree there). There is parking for two vehicles but we might be able to park a third if needed. Carpooling is encouraged.
