Angel’s Rest Trail Party – National Public Lands Day

September 28, 2019 at 8:30 am - 12:30 pm

Join REI Co-Op, Oregon & Washington State Parks, and USDA Forest Service, with partners:

  • Trailkeepers of Oregon

  • Washington Trails Association

  • Pacific Crest Trail Association

  • Friends of Columbia Gorge

  • Oregon Equestrian Trails

  • Cape Horn Conservancy

  • Friends of the Sandy River Delta

What better time to come together and celebrate all our Gorge stewardship efforts than National Public Lands Day. NPL Day felt like the right time, and the right place was an obvious one – Angel’s Rest! Immediately following a morning atop Angel’s Rest, you are invited to an afternoon celebration at Beacon Rock State Park.

Project description:

Angel’s Rest trail opened in November 2018, after nearly 80 trail party events hosted by TKO. As we edge closer to a year after opening, we hope to accomplish a number of follow up maintenance and enhancement projects. Volunteers will meet at the trailhead to begin service 8:30AM. Groups will be heading to Beacon Rock State Park for lunch to begin at 1PM. General brushing and touch ups on trail corridor and tread, using hand tools to dress up segments of trail between the overflow parking area and the viewpoint will be our priority. Here are the “teams” to be divided out by ticket type that you can register for:

  • Trillium Team – This group is for beginners, on the first mile of trail starting from the parking area.

  • Pika Team – Past the first mile, this will be a group focused from the scree area below Coopey Falls and the first couple of switches above the bridge crossing.

  • Larkspur Team – Hiking to the Oregon State Parks boundary, working up the first part of the Forest Service portion of trail. This group will be dialed in on rock structure touch ups.

  • Osprey Team – Hoofing up the furthest, this crew may be hiking above the viewpoint to the section of trail that connects to Devil’s Rest and Wahkeena.

Hiking information:

We will be gradually working our way up this trail as we work on it. You may be hiking more than 4-6 miles over steep terrain. If you have questions or concerns about the hike, please contact volunteers@trailkeepersoforegon.org

What to bring:

Bring snacks and plenty of water.

What to wear:

  • Boots (tennis shoes are strongly recommended)

  • Sturdy work gloves (more than one pair is a good idea)

  • Long sleeved shirts recommended and long pants required

  • Rain gear as appropriate for the weather

  • Eye protection is recommended (eye glasses, safety glasses, etc.)

  • TKO will supply hard hats and safety glasses

Directions to the worksite will be provided to registered volunteers no later the day prior to the work party date, along with any other necessary information.
