Crew Leader: Guy Hamblen
TKO started a 1000 ft re-route on a connector trail from Ainsworth CG to the #400 trail last fall. We have completed the rough corridor for about 800 ft with some 200 ft remaining. In addition, we started a curved retaining wall for a climbing turn with the Cascades Trails Skills College 13-14 April. We will also work on this rock structure.
Potential cancellation: This work site does experience heavy gorge winds and is in the Fire Closure area, the crew leader may decide to cancel the trail party the day before based on weather conditions. We will not work in high winds, excessive rain/heat, or potential ice events. Volunteers are advised to check their emails the night before in case there are unanticipated trail party cancellations.
We will meet in the parking lot at 8:00 AM for a safety and tool talk and then begin our project. In general, our focus will be completion of the rough corridor of the re-route trail. In addition, we will continue to move some big rocks for the retaining wall build for a unique curved climbing retaining wall.
Hiking information: We can park in the Ainsworth State Park parking lot and hike through the ¼ mile long trail to the project site.
What to expect: This is a closed trail in the Fire Closure area. This is a wind-sheltered area so we will not directly be in any Gorge winds. There may be tripping hazards present off the trail. It may be cold, rainiy, and windy so be sure to bring extra clothes, windbreakers, an extra set of gloves, and rain gear for inclement weather. A mandatory detailed safety discussion will be held before work begins.
